Chris' lesson 31st oct. Henri Cartier Bresson

Image
Henri Cartier Bresson - 1932 unpredictable monochromatic ghostly chaotic toned haunting This monochromatic image above gives me a ghostly and haunting feel as there is very little tone or colour. This also gives off a impression due to the fog in the background. It is also unpredictable as we don't know what will happen next, there is no follow on image to confirm this. The general image looks chaotic as there are unknown objects laying around and the water reflection gives me eerie atmospheric feel as it is not a single toned reflection. Form The technique he uses is a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion of the man jumping. This creates an unknown future for the man as there is no follow on images to tell me what happened next It also creates a sharp effect to the mans legs as they are froze inches above hitting the water. If he had used the technique of a slow shutter speed there would be nothing unknown about the image as movement lines would show what happened n

Future of Photography

Future of Photography Here are some of the techniques I would be interested in using in the future. https://www.format.com/magazine/resources/photography/new-photography-innovations-ces-2016 https://ozo.nokia.com/en/products/create/ozo-virtual-reality-camera.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwmqHPBRBQEiwAOvbR84OX-HWc9LlnNlghuPxwjzCyBP8z0pQ1p5dREALGkzynKHu-SUz24xoCsLYQAvD_BwE I am interested in using Drone, new apps, and 360 degree cameras. I think these new ways of technology can bring unique ways to photography which others have not used. This could be because they are new and expensive. However, it opens up new opportunities which other professionals my be interested in. The 360 degree camera is interesting technology and it can be used for career purposes. Such as a virtual tour for industry websites or as a upgrade to panoramic pictures.

Week 5 Evaluation of Carousel Graphics and notes

Image
Week 5 Evaluation of Carousel Graphics and notes Materials Paper, camera, computer and pencils. Processes We used paper and pencils to look into typography. We used the computer for the programs such as, Indesign, photoshop and Illustrator. We used the camera to take pictures of natural letters to make a alphabet out of them. Technical skills The technical skills are creating a typography piece, I think I did this well and created a interesting piece. Another technical skill is developing my skills in photoshop which I relatively know how to use and learning new things in Indesign and Illustrator which I have very little knowledge in. I feel I need more practise with some of the tools in Indesign and Illustrator as I am not good at this and don't know the tools or how to use it like I do with Photoshop. Tuesday We first took cameras outside and tried to find natural or hand make letters of the alphabet. Many of them were natural and were very easy to see if you were l

Theory of semiotics

Theory of semiotics Signifier - what it makes you think of. A noun like and object. examples - cat and rose Signified- what I end up thinking, everyones of this is different an individual thought. Its never more than a idea. example- a ginger cat or a red rose is what I think of. Denotation- All the signs have a single basic or literal meaning. The evidence of what you see, say what you see. example- the apple logo and bite taken out of a apple. Connotation- develops when signs and codes are placed within a particular context. Memory or idea from a cue and its bought to mind. The image which is presented within your mind for example a rose signifies love to me. Symbolic sign- this has no resemblance between the signifier and the signified. The connection is culturally learnt. For example the number 7 can be seen an lucky or unlucky. Iconic signs- this has a physical resemblance to the signified and is the thing that is being represented there is direct evidence of this

Week 4 Evaluation of Carousel Art and design

Image
Week 4 Evaluation of Carousel Art and Design  Materials The materials we used during these two days are cartridge paper ( A2, A3, A6),  pencils, pens, charcoal, graphite sticks, ink, paint, chalk, lighting, paper photocopies of our collages, wallpaper pieces, paper 3D structures, oil based ink, scissors and the printing press. Processes The process we used are setting up our print making area through the press, cutting our collages into 3D structures and making 15 samples to express our feelings through, experimenting with the different lighting areas with our structures.  Technical skills  The technical skills we used during the two days in art and design are print making using the press, I think I am quite good at print making once I remembered the process. Using the lighting area to produce an image and using the printing area with care and safety. I think I did this quite well as I improved with using different areas with different lightings.  Tuesday  15 mark maki

Enlarging Film to Produce an Image

Image
Enlarging Film to Produce an Image  The film can now be used to make contact sheets. I done this by inserting each film strip into the plastic film holder the back- to- front with darkroom paper underneath so that when it was exposed for 15 seconds the images were the right way round and processing the darkroom paper through the chemicals. To produce and enlarged image I then had to set the enlarger up for making a print out of the film. From my contact sheet I decided on an image to use. I used the air blower to make sure there were no dust or hairs on the film and inserted it onto the enlargers tray. I had to set the paper holder board up to 4.5" x 6.5" to leave half an inch of boarder on the 5x7" darkroom paper. I projected the image onto the blank board and had to set the contrast at 0 for yellow and 180 for magenta and set the aperture. Whilst, looking through the eye piece to find grain on the image to tell me the image is in focus. Only then could I do a

Processing Black & White Film

Tuesday 26th September 2017 Processing Film I went out and shot a series of images on a 35mm film based on the topic of order and chaos. I then took the: film scissors dry spiral centre tube funnel lid liquid seal lid tank body  into the developing tank. Where in complete darkness I had to open the cassette to remove the film spool. I then trimmed the end off the film to load it onto the dry spiral. The centre tube has to then be put into the middle of the spiral and it all has to placed into the tank body. The lid has to be fitted to the top of the tank making sure it has clicked and is straight. Only then can you leave the darkness. In the developing area one part of 20 degrees water has to be mixed with one part of X-Tol developer.  This means 300ml of mixed solution is needed for the 35mm film. The developer has to be poured into the take and fit the sealing lid, the timer must be set at 9 minutes for film at 100/125 ISO or 11 minutes for film at 400 ISO. I set th
