Week 5 Evaluation of Carousel Graphics and notes
Week 5 Evaluation of Carousel Graphics and notes
MaterialsPaper, camera, computer and pencils.
Processes
We used paper and pencils to look into typography. We used the computer for the programs such as, Indesign, photoshop and Illustrator. We used the camera to take pictures of natural letters to make a alphabet out of them.
Technical skills
The technical skills are creating a typography piece, I think I did this well and created a interesting piece. Another technical skill is developing my skills in photoshop which I relatively know how to use and learning new things in Indesign and Illustrator which I have very little knowledge in. I feel I need more practise with some of the tools in Indesign and Illustrator as I am not good at this and don't know the tools or how to use it like I do with Photoshop.
Tuesday
We first took cameras outside and tried to find natural or hand make letters of the alphabet. Many of them were natural and were very easy to see if you were looking. We then imported these images onto the computer so they were ready to use later. We were going to create a large form typography alphabet using these images, which we started. However, we didn't finish it.
We next created our own typography using inspiration from the internet. We had to measure out the correct guide lines such as the base line, ascending line and descending lines. They help to keep the letters between the line and show where the tails and tops should stop.

Step by Step process
We chose interesting posters and film covers from the internet and imported the into photoshop, we went onto the crop tool and inserted the crop guidelines in these categories grids, rule of thirds, golden spiral, golden ratio, diagonals and triangle and below we recorded which poster followed which rule.Photoshop
Grid.
Diagonals.
Golden spiral.
Rule of thirds.
We next took an alphabet we captured earlier and edited using crop and curves tool
Changed contrast.
Cropped using the rule of thirds.
Indesign
In Indesign open photoshop file drag to fill canvas
if you drag the corner it will crop the image it doesn't scale it you have to click on the middle wheel so the box goes brown to re-crop it.
Added type.
Changed font type.

How to scan an image into the computerplug the scanner into the computer
open launchpad
go to other
select the device
go to image capture
put the paper in and turn off auto selection and select detail.
Resolution
72dpi a screen uses this as there are lots of pixels
150dpi a newsprint uses this
300dpi is a high quality
for better quality you can double the numbers.
Illustrator
Scanned typography open in illustrator.
Draw round the letters on a new layer.
Now cut the middle out of the letters.
Experimented with different tools.
Indesign
Importing all alphabet pictures onto In design.
Started to arrange them in the correct order and the same size. Although, we didn't get time to complete this.
This gave me an understanding of what it is like to use the tasks, programs and skills you need to work in graphics. It helped me to expand my skills using the different programs which a graphic designer would use.
