Evaluation of Exhibition work

You are going to look at another person's work
1.Firstly use 5 words to describe that work
Intense
bright
smooth
rough
soft

2. Now comment on the images form

This means looking at the formal elements of an artwork.
  • What is the medium of the work?

The medium of the work is a digital print/ pigment print.

  • What kind of shapes or forms can you find?

I can see circular shapes where the whisk and wire was spun whilst alight. It is not a clear shape as there are streaks flicking off irregularly which makes the image quite pleasing to look out.

  • Which  techniques have they used?
A slow/long shutter speed is used to produce this image. I think the shutter speed would have been around 15 - 30 seconds. The aperture they used would have been around f11- f22 as the image has a greater depth of field. The ISO used would have been very low like ISO 100 because the shutter speed is open for a long time it lets more light in. Therefore, you need a low ISO.
The light trail effect was produced using a long shutter speed.
The camera was stabilised using a tripod and either a shutter release or a self timer.

  • What kinds of textures can you see?

The image has a smooth and soft texture which was produced by the overlapping of the light trails. I also think it is smooth and soft because of the light used to produce the trails.

3. Finally consider the mood and meaning of the work

Mood means looking at how the artist has created a certain atmosphere or feeling.
  • How does the work make you feel?

The work gives the feeling of quite pleasing, positive, excited and happy. The photo also gives of a warm feeling.

  • Why do you think you feel like this?
I think it make me feel like this because normal and average shapes are used. I think it makes me feel warm because of the colour used.

  • Does the colour, texture, form or theme of the work affect your mood?
Yes the colour, texture, form and theme of the work affects my mood. I think this is because there is very limited colour to the image, there is only the orangey colour produced by the light trails without the light trails the photo would be underexposed and very basic.
